Prayer for this Lord’s Day

Based on Ephesians 6:10-20

Heavenly Father, we thank you for all your good gifts that we experience in our daily lives. We confess that, left to ourselves, we are weak and helpless. We therefore ask you to help us to be strong in your mighty power. We humbly ask you to clothe us in your full armor, so we are able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Remind us regularly that this is where our battles truly are – not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers and authorities and powers of this dark world. Indeed, our struggle is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, mighty and merciful Father, we ask for your full armor to protect us in this spiritual warfare, and to enable us to stand firm for you, your kingdom, and your truth.

We pray O Lord for your belt of truth, your breastplate of righteousness, the readiness that comes with the gospel of peace for our feet, your shield of faith to protect us from the flaming arrows of the evil one, and your helmet of salvation. Equip us gracious and sovereign God with the sword of your Spirit, which is your very word.

And Father, remind us often of our continued dependence upon you. Help us to turn to you in prayer regularly and bring all our requests to you. Let our love for others be revealed in our constant intercession on their behalf. And Lord, we ask that any time and every time we have an opportunity to speak on your behalf, that you would not only give us the words to say, but that you would give us the boldness to do, so that we would fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel that is found in Jesus Christ alone.

Wise and all-knowing God, give us eyes to see those opportunities that are daily before us, and fill us with faithfulness in sharing the good news of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. In his name we pray. Amen.
